Family Library Time: Beekeeping! @ Crestview Library Tickets
Feb 28 @ 6:30 pm – 7:15 pm

Beekeeping with Bundrick Honey Farms
6:30-7:15 p.m.
Learn about beekeeping and taste local honey!

What’s the buzz all about?  Come to the Crestview Public Library at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 28 to learn about how the honeybee lives and the respectful ways of keeping honeybees!  Family Library Time lasts about 45 minutes and is designed for adults and children four years old and up.

All over America, city beekeepers are keeping a few honeybee hives in their backyards. Learn what is involved: how, when, where and what you will need to establish a hive. If you’re thinking about starting a bee hive or are just curious about what’s involved with keeping bees, then this is a great introduction for you.

This short presentation is designed for absolute beginners so no prior knowledge is required. There will be no hands-on beekeeping, so protective clothing and bravery will not be necessary.  Taste a variety of local honeys and buy if you like!  Registration is not required for this free event.

Secret Cold War Stories: U.S. and Soviet Submarines @ Crestview Library Tickets
May 2 @ 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm

Come join writer and researcher Bill Streifer for an afternoon of exciting war stories filled with danger and intrigue! Anyone over the age of 10 that’s a war or history enthusiast should be right at home here.

Here’s the summary of the lecture:

“During the Cold War, submarines often spent weeks or months under the sea; undetected. Even members of the crew didn’t know for sure their submarine’s exact location.

After North Korea captured the USS Pueblo, a small Navy reconnaissance vessel and its crew of 83, the U.S. Defense Department sent around 40 ships and several submarines into the Sea of Japan. But two of those submarines missions didn’t fare that well.

The USS Segundo, which was spotted by a North Korean vessel sat at the bottom of the sea of two days until they almost ran out of air; and the USS Swordfish, which struck a block of ice, had to undergo repairs at a U.S. naval base in Japan, rather than returning to her home port in Hawaii.

When the Russians spotted Swordfish’s bent mast in a Japanese newspaper, they wrongly assumed the American sub had intentionally rammed a Soviet nuclear-armed submarine, K-129, killing everyone on board.”
