From Shelves to the Shores @ Valparaiso Library Tickets

This summer area children and young adults up to age 18 will have the opportunity to work on saving the environment by working to protect our waterways from erosion and other environmental problems by assisting the Choctaw Basin Alliance. This six week program will prove beneficial for our young people as they learn how to reverse the effects of pollution in Okaloosa County.

The program will kick off with planting Spartina alterniflora in salt marsh nurseries at the library. The next 4 weeks will be activities that help us learn about the Choctawhatchee Bay. The program will conclude with a restoration field trip, where we will plant these native salt march grasses along the shores of the Choctawhatchee Bay.

The program is scheduled as follows:

    1.June 5 – Salt Marsh Exploration
    2.June 12 – Adventure in the Watershed
    3.June 19 – The Crafty Oyster
    4.June 26 – Water Pollution Wipeout
    5.July 10 – Touch Tanks

Coding Club @ Niceville Library Tickets

For summer, our Coding Club will meet every Thursday from 4:00-5:00 in a six-session block.  The club is open to grades 5-8 and registration is required.  We will be working with Scratch.  Each meeting of Coding Club will have an exercise for participants to complete aimed at helping them to learn Scratch coding.  It is recommended that participants attend all meetings as future meetings will build on previously covered concepts.  Club size is limited to 14 students as we have a limited number of laptops for participants to use.

Meeting dates:  June 14, June 21, June 28, July 12, July 26.

No prior coding experience is necessary.
